On Sunday, the Muskies travelled to Lombard's Madison Meadow to take on the Lombard Orioles in a Chicago Suburban Baseball League doubleheader. The Muskies bats were as hot as the weather as the team scored a combined 17 runs in the two games to sweep the twin bill.
In game one, the bottom of the lineup helped Beecher capture a 9-6 victory. The 7-8-9 hitters Tyler Brody, Patrick Carmody (pictured right), and Zac Ruzich combined for six of the team's 11 hits in the victory. They scored two runs and drove in four.
The Muskies got on the board in the top of the first inning scoring 4 times on RBIs from Nolan Czako, Andrew Mack and Carmody. The Orioles also committed an error scoring one run. In the fifth inning, Mack singled home a run and Brody doubled to drive in two more. Later in the inning Ruzich and AJ Le had RBI singles.
Nick Noles earned the win. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and four runs over six innings despite striking out just one and walking eight. Jack Callejo collected the save. Josh Sutker appeared in relief for Muskies.
Beecher tallied 11 hits in the game. Brody, Carmody, Mack, and Ruzich each collected two hits for Muskies. Brody and Mack each drove in two runs for the Muskies who played errorless defense.
In game 2, Bryce Shafer (pictured below left) was dominant on the hill, as the righty rang up 12 strikeouts in the Muskies's 8-4 victory. He allowed five hits and two runs over five and two-thirds innings while walking one.
The Muskies got on the board in the first inning on Andy Gaytan's solo home run to right field. They made it a 2-0 lead in the second on an RBI groundout from AJ Le. Beecher broke the game open in the fourth as they scored six runs on four. RBI singles from Taylor Fuerst ad Le each drove in a one run. Nolan Czako's double with the bases loaded scored three more and an Andrew Mack sacrifice fly later plated Czako.
Shafer earn the win and Jack Callejo picked up his second save of the day. Ben Carlile also appeared in relief for Muskies. Third baseman Czako was 3 for 3 to pace the Muskie offense.
On Friday night in Springfield, IL, the Illinois Sports Hall of Fame inducted long time
Muskies manager Fred LeSage as part of its 2024-25 class. The event at held at the Springfield Convention Center featured many Illinois sports legends and included keynote speeches from basketball greats Terry Cummings and Kenny Battle, tennis legend Katrina Adams and Superbowl quarterback Ken Anderson.
LeSage (pictured speaking to the induction audience) was recognized for his 960+ wins as a baseball manager as well as his contributions to the Chicago Suburban Baseball League and the National Amateur Baseball Federation. Long time Muskie player and coach Todd Sippel provided the induction speech. LeSage joins many other Illinois sports notables in the Hall of Fame including former Chicago Suburban Baseball League managers Bill Storrs and Al Oremus.
