On Wednesday the National Amateur Baseball Federation began play in their 111th annual World Series in Wheaton, IL at Lee Pfund Memorial Stadium. In the second game of the night (the Chicago Clout defeated the Fort Wayne Jackers in Game 1), the Muskies had their start in the tournament against the Erie Buffaloout of New York. Bryce Shafer would start the game on the mound for the Muskies. After just three innings of his pitching, Shafer would record eight strikeouts. Because of a great showing by the Muskies lineup, Muskies manager Fred LeSage would decide to go with Cam Kearney out of the bullpen in the fourth inning. After three innings the Muskies already had a 12-0 lead. Beecher would start the game with 5 runs. The 1st inning saw all 9 Muskie hitters come to the plate. This first inning scoring would be topped off by a bases loaded bases clearing double by first baseman Patrick Carmody. Then, in the 2nd inning, another bases loaded bases clearing double would be hit by Muskies left fielder AJ Le. In the third, back-to-back to back doubles by Andy Gaytan, Marty Coyle, and Mark Dye led to two more runs. The game would only be 5 innings because of the mercy rule, with the Muskies winning game one of their World Series play, 13-0. Thursday at 6:30 PM the Muskies play their second World Series contest at Lee Pfund Memorial Stadium against the Ft. Wayne Jackers.
