Muskies Walk Off Cats Twice on Sunday
7/9/2025

On Sunday, the Muskies hosted the Oswego Cats at Beecher's Sippel Memorial Field in a Chicago Suburban Baseball League doubleheader.  The Muskies rallied late in both games to take home a doubleheader sweep.

It came down to the wire in the first game as the Muskies grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 5-4.  Trailing 4-3 entering the final frame, AJ Le led off the inning with a solo home run to tie the score at four.   After a strikeout, Thomas Offill walked, stole second and advanced to third on an error.  Marty Coyle then drew a walk and advanced to second on defensive indifference.  The Cats then intentionally walked Camden Kearney to load the bases with one out.  Another strikeout resulted in the second out bringing catcher Andrew Mack to the plate.  Mack singled on a looping line drive to right to drive in Offill with the winning run.

Bryce Shafer struck out 10 batters on the day. The starter also surrendered eight hits and four runs over six innings while walking two.  Ben Carlile earned the win for Beecher as he pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Shafer, striking out two.  Nolan Czako (pictured) provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Muskies with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 with a home run.

Game 2 ended in similar fashion with AJ Le in the middle of another late game rally as the Muskies prevailed again in walk-off fashion, 3-2.  The game was tied at two in the bottom of the seventh when Chuckie Smith led off with a single to center.  Le then pinch ran for him.   Taylor Fuerst then singled, advancing Le to third.  On the throw in from the outfield, the ball got away from the Oswego cut off man and Le seized the opportunity, sliding home head first with the winning run under a late tag by Cats catcher Matt Reilly.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Muskies pitchers struck out seven, while the Cats sat down five.  Cam Kearney and Andrew Olszewski both had RBI bas hits for Beecher.  Zack Millsap earned the win for Beecher with a scoreless inning of relief.  Brooks McDowell (pictured right) pitched four innings in relief for Muskies striking out seven and walking one. Nick Noles started on the hill for Muskies and pitched two scoreless innings.  Olszewski and Chuckie Smith each collected two hits for Beecher.

The Muskies improved to 15-6 on the season and 13-5 in CSBL play.  The team plays next on Tuesday at Gouwens Park in South Holland at 7 PM against the Windy City Baseball Club.
