The Muskies could not keep pace with the Lombard Orioles on Wednesday at Gouwens Park as the Orioles took home an 8-4 victory.
The Muskies were got on the board in the first when Andrew Olszewski doubled, advanced to third and later raced home on a Mark Dye infield grounder. Aaron Holland doubled to center field, which helped Lombard tie the game at one in the top of the third. The Orioles took the lead in the top of the fifth on a Wyatt Wawro sacrifice fly off Muskie starter Kris Honel. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Muskies went back into the lead on RBIs from Thomas Offill, Nolan Czako and AJ Le. A home run to right field by Vince Spatofora off Muskie reliever Jack Cajello gave Lombard the lead at 6-4 in the top of the seventh. They would score single insurance runs in the eigth and ninth to make the final 8-4.
Jacob Sullivan earned the win for Lombard . The pitcher allowed five hits and four runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one. Jack Callejo took the loss for the Muskies. The righty went one and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs on three hits, striking out one and walking none. Kris Honel (pictured above) opened the game for Beecher. The pitcher gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one.
Leadoff hitter Andrew Olszewski led the Muskies with two hits in three at bats. Czako, Offill, and Le each drove in one run for Muskies. Olszewski stole three bases.
The loss drops the Muskies to 10-4 on the season and 8-3 in CSBL play. They return to action at Lincoln Way Central on Thursday in a 7:30 CSBL game against the New Lenox Pumas.
