The Muskies took on the Chicago Warriors in a Chicago Suburban Baseball League doubleheader Saturday at Beecher's Sippel Memorial Field.
In game 1, the Warriors defeated the Muskies 11-2 thanks in part to seven runs in the fifth inning. The Muskies got on the board in the first when Camden Kearney (pictured right) singled home a run. But the Warriors jumped into the lead in the top of the second with two runs off Muskie starter Tyler Snoreck. In the fifth, they scored seven runs on four hits off relievers Brett Hecimovich and Ben Carlile with the big blow being a Joe Perona grand slam to right field. Jacob Maza earned the win for the visitors. The pitcher gave up two hits and two runs over four and one-third innings, striking out five and walking four. Snoreck took the loss for Muskies who managed just three hits in the game from Kearney, Marty Coyle and AJ Le.
In game 2, the Muskies flipped the script as they again opened the scoring on a Kearney RBI single. A bunt single by Taylor Fuerst extended the Muskies lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning as Nolan Czako raced home from third. The Warriors rallied in the top of the third, scoring five runs on three hits off Muskie starter Kris Honel to take the lead, 5-2. But the Muskies produced their own rally in the sixth when they scored six times on a pair of three run homers from Czako and Marty Coyle (pictured left). Coyle's homer marked the 100th time he had smacked a round tripper for Beecher.
Michael Leonard earned the win for Beecher. The reliever surrendered three hits and one run over four innings, striking out five and walking four. The Muskies piled up 11 hits in the game. Fuerst, Coyle, Czako, and Zac Ruzich each collected two hits.
With the split, the Muskies are now 8-2 on the season and 6-1 in CSBL play. They return to CSBL play on Tuesday against the Calumet Beavers at Gouwens Park in South Holland at 7 PM.
