Muskies Sweep Doubleheader at Addison

The Muskies travelled to Addison on Sunday to take on the Addison Braves in a Chicago Suburban Baseball League doubleheader at Community Park.  The Beecher squad came away with two wins on the day.

 

In game 1, Marty Coyle drove in four runs on three hits to lead the to a 12-8 victory.  Coyle hit a home run to left field in the sixth inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the first inning, driving in one.  The bats blistered as Beecher collected 12 hits and the Braves tallied nine in the high-scoring game.  The Muskies had a big inning in the third, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 6-1. Zac Ruzich (pictured) and Karl Gotsch each drove in two runs with RBI singles in the frame.  Four more Muskie runs crossed the plate in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 11-2 on Coyle's homer and a Taylor Fuerst bases loaded walk.  

 

Addison rallied to score six runs on three hits off a two Muskie relievers in the bottom of the sixth.  But they would get no closer as Ben Carlile closed out the game in the final frame striking out two Braves.  Bryce Shafer earned the win for Muskies. The starter surrendered four hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out eight and walking three.  Andrew Olszewski and Coyle each collected three hits for Beecher. Quintin Alexander collected two hits for Muskies in three at bats.

 

In game 2, it was the bottom three in the Muskies batting order that helped Beecher capture a 7-5 victory over the Braves.  Tyler Brody, Chuckie Smith, and Quintin Alexander combined for four of the team's eight hits in the victory.  The trio three runs and drove in three.

 

The Muskies got on the board in the top of the second inning on a Brody double, scoring one run and an Alexander single that drove in Brody.  An error by the Braves allowed two more runs to score later in the inning.  Addison ied the game at 4 in the bottom of the fourth with three runs off Muskie starter Kris Honel.  In the top of the fifth, the Muskies broke up the tie when Alexander again singled this time driving in two runs.  Another error by the Braves followed to extend the lead to 7-4.

 

Alex Rodriguez (pictured) earned the win for Muskies. The right-handed pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings of reiief, striking out four and walking two.  Kris Honel started on the mound for Muskies. The pitcher gave up five hits and four runs over three and one-third innings, striking out five and walking two. Camden Kearney collected the save. Zac Ruzich appeared in relief for Muskies as well.  Alexander, Brody and AJ Le each collected two hits for Beecher. 

 

The Muskies improvded to 18-6 on the season and 15-5 in CSBL play.  The team plays next on Tuesday at DeLaSalle High School in Chicago against the UDC Hitters in a 7 PM game.
